Affordable homes scheme to get the nod

Plans for 27 affordable homes in a north Northumberland village look set to get the green light.

A scheme for the change of use of agricultural land and construction of 27 properties and private gardens on land south of New Barns Court in Warkworth goes before members of Northumberland County Council’s north area planning committee tonight.

It is recommended for approval despite objections from residents and a petition signed by more than 300 people.

However, this relates to this application as well as another linked application for 44 private homes south of Morwick Road.

Both applications have received objections, although the private aspect has proved more controversial. There are concerns that the village cannot sustain further development and that the private houses will be bought for holiday homes, which will have a negative impact on the community.

The planning officer concludes it ‘would result in an acceptable and sustainable form of development’.
