Around 60 people will take part in a charity abseil to raise funds for a 12-year-old girl currently in the US for cutting-edge cancer therapy.

As reported in the Gazette in July, Niamh Yates, whose mum Julie is from Alnwick, is undergoing Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) in Florida to treat a undifferentiated sarcoma on her spine.

And auntie Laura Butroid has organised the abseil, which will take place on the old railway line between Alnwick and Alnmouth on Sunday, September 2, to boost funds and raise awareness.

While 60 people have already put their names down, anyone interested in taking part, for £10, can contact Laura on 07793 892675.

The 31-year-old is hoping to raise £2,500 for Niamh’s appeal, which has currently raised nearly £25,000.
