Motorists are being warned about standing water on the region's roads, while the A697 is closed in north Northumberland this morning.

The A697 is closed at Glanton between the Playwell Road junction and The Causeway junction. A diversion is in operation via Glanton village. Slightly further north, there is disruption at Powburn due to flooding where the road is just passable.

The B6354 near Ford is closed between the A697 junction and the B6353 junction to Ford. The B6353 is also affected by flooding.

The northbound exit at the southern entrance to Morpeth (A197 at Clifton) is now open again, having been closed yesterday.

A statement from Northumbria Police said: "There is still a lot of standing water across the force area this morning so please be careful and leave extra time for your journeys."
