Campaigners fighting plans for a surface mine close to Druridge Bay have launched a photo competition to give their cause more exposure.

Amateur photographers are being urged to send in pictures that showcase the area’s beauty. The photos must be taken in the area between Druridge Pools and Cresswell Village along the coast and inland as far as Widdrington Village and the A1068 coast road.

There are three categories – under 11, 12 to 18 and over 18. Each person can enter three photographs. Entries should include caption, the image subject, the location the image was taken and the name and age of the photographer. Entrants should say what they love about Druridge and why they want to save the area from Banks Mining plans, for south-east of Widdrington. A name of a parent/guardian must be included on children’s entries.

The winning photos will be shown at an exhibition later in the year. Email entries to sd photocomp@btinternet.com or visit savedruridge.co.uk/ for full details.
