She made her name at London 2012. And last week, Olympian Laura Weightman was back in the capital – this time by Royal appointment.
The 21-year-old, who reached the women’s 1500m final at the Games, attended the Queen’s annual garden party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.
Laura, from Lesbury, was invited to the annual affair for being a part of Team GB.
The Morpeth Harrier joined other athletes who competed in last year’s Olympics and Paralympics at the prestigious event, among other guests.
And it was an occasion that she will never forget.
“It was a great day, absolutely incredible,” said Laura, who attended the garden party with her mum Diana.
She added: “We said that we never imagined ourselves being invited to a garden party by the Queen. It was quite surreal.
“And I have to say, I have never seen such a good cake and afternoon tea selection.”
The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, as well as the Duchess of Cambridge were all present on the day.
Laura is competing in the Eugene meeting of the IAAF Diamond League, which takes place tomorrow and Saturday.
Her big goal this summer is to reach the IAAF World Championships, which take place in Russia later this year.
