A special day to honour Amble’s connection with the RMS Mauretania was staged.

In July 1935, a message from the ship described Amble as the ‘kindliest port in England’, as the vessel passed Amble on her final journey to the breakers’ yard.

Decades of retelling this story has meant that kindliest has turned into friendliest; which is why Amble is known as The Friendliest Port.

To honour this, the town held Mauretania Day and the event featured live music, sword dancing and a display of classic cars.
