Pupils from Seahouses Primary School have given a helping hand to Beadnell’s in-bloom efforts, as the village aims to win a gold award.

The youngsters entered a traditional butterfly colouring-in competition and all of their creations are now displayed in and around the new Bug Hotel along The Lonnen. The winners went along to inspect their work.

The children also took the opportunity to have a quick wildflower and wildlife lesson and were given some hedgehog food to leave inside the hedgehog house.

Evidence of current hedgehog activity is essential if Beadnell in Bloom is to achieve one of its goals of rehabilitating hedgehogs, in what is a perfect environment for them to thrive.

Beadnell in Bloom aims to build on this wildlife corridor each year and to help with this, the headteacher of Seahouses Primary School has already agreed to include a visit to The Lonnen in next year’s curriculum.
