MORE than £90,000 has been spent on local projects in north Northumberland in the last financial year as part of the county council’s Community Chest.
The scheme was reintroduced for a third year in March 2011 with the first meetings taking place in March or April.
The total budget remained at the level of £362,000 with an amount of £30,000 kept aside for applications for county-wide projects.
The amount available in the Community Chest budget for each area was £90,000. Grants ranging from £250 to £5,000 were given to 59 different organisations across the north of the county.
Those benefiting from funding included everything from youth groups to sports teams, and village halls to Christmas lights committees.
Chairman of the North Area Committee Pat Scott welcomed the report at last Thursday’s meeting, saying the initiative had funded a ‘larger number of diverse schemes’.
