When Joe and Louise Robson decided the food offering at their Coach Inn, Lesbury, needed extra flair, the idea of a menu challenge sprang to mind, and who better to involve than local Women’s Institutes and members of the public.
Chef Joe, who recently took over cooking at The Coach, liaised with WI members in setting up a challenge.
This covered three areas: a soup starter, pie main course and a dessert.
Five local institutes entered teams who presented their courses at the Coach Inn kitchen, and members of the public, after sampling each, recorded marks out of ten.
The winner of each category received a certificate and the WI with highest overall marks, Widdrington Station, was awarded the £100 prize and a trophy. Joe and Louise were delighted with the response and plan to make this an annual event.
