North East commuters have been encouraged to get back on public transport after the coronavirus lockdown significantly impacted the sector with passenger numbers collapsing to just 5% of normal levels at the height of lockdown in April.

Face coverings have been mandatory on public transport since June 15 and will continue to be so. Anyone not wearing a face covering could be refused travel or potentially fined.
