Collect Service Go wanted to know which of the UK’s drives are the most beautiful according to social media. To find this out, they analysed Instagram hashtags to find which scenic routes are the most shared on the social media platform.
And the results show Northumberland is the most popular region to drive in the UK with routes such as the Northumberland Coastal Route (75,026 posts) and Alnmouth to Holy Island (64,890 posts) accumulating over 139,000 posts to date.
From north to south here are 19 reasons why the Northumberland coast is such a popular driving route.
1. Holy Island
Holy Island is linked to the mainland by a long causeway. Twice each day the tide sweeps in from the North Sea and covers the road so check the tide timetables before attempting to cross.
