Plans have been lodged for a pair of timber glamping pods at Fenwick Granary Farm, between Beal and Belford.

The farm is on the route of St Cuthbert’s Way, the 100k (60 mile) walk between Melrose and Holy Island which attracts an estimated 3,000 walkers every year.

The proposal forms part of a bid by new owners to give the farm a new lease of life.

Applicant Corrina Scott-Roy, in a planning report, states: “Untended for many years the farm had ceased to operate fully and the buildings were at risk of catastrophic failure.

"Over the past year the new owners have invested heavily and sought to repair and improve their landholding and it is now their intention to slowly bring this once thriving farm back to life. This application is integral to the long-term viability of the farm.”

Each glamping pod would consist of a single bedroom, some living/cooking space and a separate toilet.

“The glamping pods will provide an alternative to traditional overnight camping stays in this area,” adds the report.

“The design responds directly to the local environment and is supposed to represent a more comfortable and luxurious camping experience whilst maintaining a sympathetic appearance in the landscape.

"The pods are constructed entirely of responsibly sourced sustainable timber fixed to a concrete platform. The pods are highly insulated and are fully serviced by electricity which is enhanced with solar PVs.

“Within the wider site a rainwater harvesting system is employed and this will provide grey water to toilets. An EV charging point is also provided.”
