5. Heatherslaw Light Railway

6. Museums
Woodhorn Museum in Ashington is built on the site of a former colliery so there is lots to find out about the area's coal-mining heritage. It is run by Museums Northumberland which also operates Berwick Museum and Art Gallery, Hexham Old Gaol and Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum. Photo: Jane Coltman
7. Morpeth
The Sanderson Arcade offers one of the best shopping experiences in Northumberland and there are plenty more interesting shops around the town centre. Nearby there are also nice walks along the River Wansbeck (with a stepping stones walkway which is always fun for little ones) and around Carlisle Park. Photo: Jane Coltman
8. Wallington Hall
Wallington Hall, near Cambo, to the west of Morpeth, is another National Trust property which is a great place to visit. The house, cafe, shop, play parks, wildlife hide and walled garden are open. On weekdays after 12.30pm you don’t need to pre-book your visit. However at weekends, on bank holidays and in school holidays, booking is required to guarantee entry. Photo: Jane Coltman
