Plenty of things have changed in the past decade, but some remain pretty much the same, as these two Christmas lights pictures show.
The end of November and beginning of December in 2003 also heralded a wealth of switch-on events across the towns and villages of north Northumberland.
Communities welcomed the advent of the festive season with their own light shows.
The top photo shows the display of lights in Main Street in Seahouses, while the bottom picture features the Duchess of Northumberland and Common Bellman John Stevens at the Alnwick event.
