Gazette reader Grace Toward, of Alnwick, got in touch to share some details on this photo. The confectioner’s shop was in Bondgate Without, Alnwick, opposite what is now the Playhouse, just along from the current Gazette offices. The man is Bob Lawson, nephew of E White, who left the shop to him on her death. He is standing with his daughter Hilda, who took over the shop when he died. Everyone in Alnwick called them White, even though their name was Lawson. They were friends of Mrs Toward’s family and she rented it and lived there until she retired in 1964.
