The eyes and ears of Britain were on Beadnell on August 25, 1990, as they held their third annual alternative flower show.

The county’s strangest horticultural event found itself the focus of nationwide publicity as representatives of radio, television, the tabloids and even the ‘posh papers’, to quote the report, visited organiser Jennifer Hall in the sleepy village to discuss the show.

The village’s version of shooting themselves in the foot started off as a fun idea to raise funds for the Beadnell Village Hall then it expanded from there.
