Bamburgh was chosen as the best coastal location by a Which? survey but it is just one area of the 40 mile-long Northumberland coastline with great areas to explore that boast a good day out.
5. Newton-by-the-sea
Newton-by-the-sea is great for sailing and windsurfing with clear views to Dunstanburgh Castle. It is also loved for bird watching with the National Trust owning most of the area. It is a quiet and relaxing area of Northumberland. Photo: David Taylor
6. Druridge
Druridge bay is 7 miles long and part of it is owned by the National Trust. It is popular for those who like to cycle, walk, paddle and surf. The country park is not too far from the beach and based on a lake and meadows which used to be an opencast coal mine. Photo: Jim Jones
7. Newbiggin-by-the-sea
Newbiggin-by-the-sea is in south east Northumberland and famous for its beach that was redeveloped in 2007. It used to be a coal mining town and is still a good area for fishing. The area showcases the longest promenade in Northumberland. Photo: Martyn Wright
