Lesbury WI, Meeting

Lesbury Village Hall
Lesbury Village Hall

A star speaker

The president of Lesbury WI Susan Wood welcomed all members to the meeting and the minutes, matters arising and the treasurer’s report were speedily dispatched. Thankfully, we are in funds.

Members going to the Christmas lunch were advised to make their food choices. They were also encouraged to attend the third Lesbury art exhibition in the village hall.

Our village is to trial operating lunches for Age UK and thanks are owed to the members who signed up to cook or help. I was well and truly chastised when asked who they were intended for when I referred to old people.

Our speaker arrived straight from work and quickly set up his equipment. This was a return visit for Dr Adrian Janetta, from Newcastle University, but this time he was talking to us about the Milky Way.

What a passionate and enthusiastic talk he gave, with lots of testing questions from the audience, but he had an answer for them all.

He informed us how to spot it, where and when it can best be seen, the stars that are included, some of the myths surrounding it and the latest ventures of the Gaia spacecraft, which is to map the stars in the Milky Way.

After supper competition winners and raffle winners were awarded, together with the birthday flowers. Annette Ord has once again got off to a flying start in the competition stakes.

As the evening ended members were reminded that our Christmas festive evening will begin at 6.30pm and they should remember plates, glasses and cutlery. Where has this year gone?
