Garden waste has continued to be collected throughout the coronavirus lockdown, although there was a suspension on new people signing up for the service.

Now, after reviewing the capacity of existing garden waste routes, Northumberland Council Council has confirmed it can reopen the scheme to new customers in the areas where it already offers the service.

The scheme operates from early March to the end of November/beginning of December.

Coun Glen Sanderson, cabinet member for environment and local services, said: “We know how much people value this scheme and we were pleased to be able to keep it running over recent weeks.

“We are now in a position where we can take on more new customers in locations we already provide the service.”

The re-opening will be kept under constant review.
