Alnwick in Bloom is asking budding growers to start growing their sunflowers now for judging in late summer.

Alnwick in Bloom co-chairmen, Elizabeth Jones and Eileen Blakey, said “This is always one of our competitions which we look forward to each year.

"It’s great to see the children, growing something for the first time and getting really excited about the results.

Alnwick in Bloom has launched its annual children's sunflower competition.

"2021 is a special year as Alnwick in Bloom are celebrating their 40th anniversary so the committee will be thrilled if anyone grows ruby sunflowers as well.”

Judging the sunflowers will take place in late August/early September and the winner will receive a prize of £50 voucher as well as prizes of vouchers for second and third places. There will also be five runners up prizes of £5 vouchers.

Sunflower seeds can be bought from garden centres and most supermarkets.
