In September 1953, 34 girls from around the Alnwick area became the new first form at The Duchess School.
Sixty years later, on September 3 this year, 14 of the ‘girls’ had a reunion and spent a day together at Doxford Hall.
Organisers Gillian Swan (née Holland) and Margaret Rutter (Moff) had managed to trace a remarkable number of the class and were delighted at the response.
And the next reunion is already planned.
“We think waiting until the 70th anniversary might be pushing it so we’ll aim for the 65th in five years’ time,” said Gillian.
