The Plough Alnwick welcomes a new landlord promising exciting new changes

Traditional pub and boutique-style hotel, The Plough has welcomed a new landlord who promises to ‘give his all’ to ensure the venue is a success again.

Under new management, the pub located on Bondgate Without, sets out to offer live music, sports showings and a brand new menu, as well as making the promise to increase the standards to match the prices.

Laurie Holbrook took over the Alnwick business from December 4. Having grown up around the pub industry, Laurie is following in his mother’s footsteps after moving to the area when she ran the Queen’s Head.

As well as juggling being a popular DJ, and running local karaoke nights, Laurie is process manager for Alncom who he credits for being supportive of his new venture.

He said: “I basically grew up in the Queen’s, it was my living room and all the customers were my friends, so I have knowledge and experience of the industry.

"The Plough used to be known as a really busy pub and business was booming, over the last few years there has been a few different owners and standards have dropped and a lot of people have boycotted the place.

“We need to raise the standards to match the prices, service standards will increase significantly, people will be greeted with a smile, we have dimming lights installed, and we have a 200 inch projector screen which sports will be shown on."

Laurie also plans invite more music and entertainment to the venue. He added: "I'm very well known for karaoke, but the Plough is a boutique hotel and restaurant and not the typical place for karaoke.

“So, I’m going to run Alnwick live lounge which is like an open-mic event which I’ve already got in the works, it will be nice and casual but you will have to pre-book your time.

“So hopefully this will attract musicians, but I am happy to give karaoke songs to anyone who’s just a singer.”

Laurie also says that he wants the business to become more charity-orientated, aiming to make use of the venues large function room by hosting fundraising events every three months, for charities chosen by customers.
