Tasty new takeaway menu launched at stylish Northumberland coastal venue ahead of reopening

A new takeaway menu has been launched ahead of the reopening of a luxury hotel and restaurant on the Northumberland coast.

The Whittling House in Alnmouth opened last autumn but its doors have been mostly shut since then due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is hoping to welcome customers back with the planned reopening of indoor hospitality on May 17 but, before then, chefs have put together a tempting @Home option for those wishing to sidestep cooking duties and opt for some delicious treats in the comfort of their own home – or indeed to enjoy in the sunshine on the beautiful coast.

Main dishes such as the poached and grilled half lobster with lobster gratin, skinny fries and truffle mayo; the Whittling House’s signature burger; and ox cheek wellington are already proving popular choices on the click and collect menu, to say nothing of the lager and lemon battered fresh haddock with chips, homemade tartar sauce and mushy peas.

The menu also offers a selection of hot and cold sandwiches, snacks, starters, a children’s menu and gorgeous desserts to enjoy, giving people the opportunity to sample some of The Whittling House’s locally sourced dishes before it reopens.

The click and collect service is running from Thursday to Sunday, 12pm-8pm. Takeaway orders can be made 30 minutes before collection or a time slot can be chosen via www.thewhittlinghouse.co.uk.

The Whittling House is a joint project between renowned North East chef and restaurant owner, Richard Sim, who runs the popular Michelin Guide-featured Potted Lobster in Bamburgh, and Kelso-based entrepreneur, Tom Leslie.

It is located within the former Saddle Grill Hotel and Hooked restaurant.

The dramatic events of the pandemic are having a major impact on many of our local valued advertisers and consequently the advertising that we receive. We are now more reliant than ever on your support through buying our newspaper. If you can, please pick up a copy of the Northumberland Gazette when you are at the shops. Thank you.
