Wedding rearranged at the eleventh hour to help Northumberland couple get married before lockdown
When Danielle and Adam Hope heard the Prime Minister’s announcement on Saturday about another national lockdown they felt their dreams of getting married this year had been dashed again.
But within just 24 hours the team at Northumberland Registration Service, their venue and all their suppliers had rallied to help the Ashington couple have the wedding of their dreams.
Originally the couple were due to get married in May, and after several further date changes they were hoping to get married on Friday, November 13.
Following the Saturday, October 31st announcement, they quickly realised this date would also not be able to go ahead.
Desperate to get things rearranged quickly Danielle contacted the weddings team at Northumberland County Council through social media last Sunday to see if there was any way they could help.
Within a few minutes the team got in touch to say they could marry the couple the following day.
A quick call to their venue, Charlton Hall, Ellingham, and the small number of friends and family who had been invited to the ceremony and the wedding was rearranged for Monday, November 2, just a few days before lockdown began.
The couple were married at Charlton Hall last Monday evening.
Danielle, 29, who works at Newcastle Dental Hospital, said: “When we heard the news we couldn’t believe it. I was absolutely devastated. Adam had got to the point where he was ready to say let’s just forget about it for this year, but I wanted to give it one more try and see if we could still go ahead before lockdown.
“As it was the weekend, I knew the office wouldn’t be open, so I decided to send a tweet to the registrar team and couldn’t believe it when I got a call back 10 mins later asking how they could help.
“Once we knew we could get a registrar, I spoke to the team at Charlton Hall, who were great and said we could go ahead on Monday. From there it just went crazy. We spent the day on the phone to all our suppliers rearranging everything. Everyone has been so fantastic and have really pulled out all the stops to help us have our special day.”
Adam, a train driver with Grand Central, said: “It was all a bit of a whirlwind, and I actually had to get up early and go to work on the morning of the wedding. Thankfully work were great and gave me the following day off!
“We want to thank the team at Northumberland and everyone else who was involved in helping us get things rearranged. The ceremony was amazing, it was really intimate and something we will never forget.”Heather Farrar, ceremony co-ordination team leader, said: “It has been a really difficult time for our couples and we have been working really hard to make sure they can still have their dream wedding.
“When Danielle and Adam contacted us we were delighted that we could find a date and work with the venue to allow them to get married before this second lockdown.”
