Bamburgh Castle hosts gorgeous Covid-secure wedding - for its owner

Bamburgh Castle owner Francis Watson Armstrong has become the first member of his family to marry at the iconic venue in over 100 years.

Francis married his long-time partner, Claire Thorburn, in a Covid-secure ceremony on Saturday, December 19.

It is the first time a member of the Armstrong family has married in the castle since it was bought by William George Armstrong in 1894.

Claire said: “I think it is lovely that we still managed to marry and have such a joyful event in these dark days.”

Her dad, John, was there to give his daughter away.

Claire also thanked wedding coordinator Karen Larkin for her ‘amazing’ efforts.

The couple would like to thank everyone for all their messages of love and support.

Northumberland is currently in the Tier 3 ‘very high alert’ level of coronavirus restrictions. Tier 3 rules allow wedding and civil partnership ceremonies to go ahead with up to 15 people, not including those working, although receptions are not allowed.
