Jack and Sam Chrisp have raised £5,500 by running and rowing a marathon every day this week, a total of 263 miles, with sister Libby joining in for 10k a day, and a marathon on the final day.

Jack, who rows for his college at Durham University, rowed the distance, while Sam ran local routes to reach the marathon length each day.

The siblings wanted to take on the trial to raise money for two local charities, the NSPCC and the High Sheriff of Northumberland’s Fund. The money raised will be split between the two, and go towards helping local children and families.

Sam Chrisp said :“We wanted to raise money for charities which make a difference to lives locally.

“The NSPCC, though a national charity, has services like Childline, the Helpline, and the local service centre which supports local children and adults ranging from 1-2-1 chats to helping them escape an abusive situation.”

Katy Carmen, supporting fundraising officer for the NSPCC North East, said: “We are so pleased that Jack, Sam and Libby have put in so much effort to complete their challenge and raise an amazing amount of money for the NSPCC.

“At a time like this, when we can’t go out and do our regular fundraising events, we rely on the initiative and kindness of local heroes to step up and fundraise in any way they can.”

Sam added: “We just wanted to push ourselves in something we enjoy to raise money so that the charities can continue to do the amazing and life-changing work that’s needed at the moment”

Childline recently announced its emergency appeal ‘We’re Still Here’, encouraging people to donate so that the service can continue to answer children who are feeling worried or scared.

This comes after more than 1,700 counselling sessions were delivered to children concerned about coronavirus in the first three weeks of April alone.
