We held our meeting in the Memorial Hall on September 7.
Rosemary, our president, welcomed members, Jerusalem was sung, and Rosemary thanked all members for supporting the fund-raising in August. We raised £700.
We didn’t have a meeting in August, but eight members attended Longhoughton/Boulmer WI.
Shirley had completed the programme for 2018.
Marion read out further invitations – Embleton birthday party, September 12; the Pledge Auction at Stannington, Vanessa at the Fish Restaurant has kindly donated two meals; Chiswick WI invitation; a reminder of the treasurer hunt at Rothbury on October 1; an invite to Amble WI, October 9; two members to Warkworth WI on October 3 and Bamburgh WI, October 11; and Christmas at the Abbey, Hexham, December 14.
Marion suggested that our Christmas meal could be held in the White Swan this year.
A thank you from the oncology department Newcastle had been received for half of the coffee morning proceeds.
A coffee morning is to be held on October 30, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Rosemary welcomed Mrs Jan Brunt, of Beadnell, who kindly stepped in when our original speaker had to cancel.
Jan gave us a paper-folding craft session. She made it looks so easy, but after we got started, there were shouts of “help Jan”.
We had a wonderful night and we each went home with six small photo frames, all joined together in zig-zag. Thank you Jan and her friend Margaret.
The competition was for three roses in a small vase. Results: 1 Trish Flegg; 2 Ann Mallen; 3 Sybil Dawson. Raffle winners: 1 Helen Chamberlain; 2 Sybil Dawson.
Supper was served by Trish Flegg, Pauline Brown and Shirley Tucker. This concluded a very creative, happy and interesting evening.
