Co-op Funeralcare has raised more than £1,700 to support the British Red Cross’ UK Solidarity Fund, which supports victims of terrorism.

Nine Co-op Funeralcare colleagues from funeral homes across the North of England took part in a three-day, 140-mile coast to coast sponsored bike ride.

The team started the ride in Whitehaven and went on to cycle through the Lake District and North Pennines before arriving at the final destination of Tynemouth.

David Knowles, regional operations manager, said: “As a team we decided we wanted to do something bold and challenging to really push ourselves and raise money.

“It was a tough weekend, but also a great weekend, with great company and good atmosphere.

“The British Red Cross does truly amazing work and helps to improve the lives of thousands of people across the UK.

“Our team was very passionate about getting involved in some way to help with this incredible cause.”

The money raised from the sponsored cycle will add to the £50,000 that the Co-op has already raised for the British Red Cross’ UK Solidarity Fund.
