Butchery in the 1920s

Corner of Fenkle Street, Alnwick
Corner of Fenkle Street, Alnwick

This picture from around 1920 is one of a collection from local historian Adrian Ions which he has lent to the Gazette.

It shows Dryden’s Butchers, which was on the corner of Narrowgate and Fenkle Street, currently a clock shop.

The slaughtered animals can be seen hanging outside and William Dryden, the owner, is pictured holding his granddaughter’s hand with two other people on the right hand side.
