A warm welcome was given by president Barbara to members and guest Sheila.

Minutes from the previous meeting were tabled for members to read later. Our treasurer had calendars and diaries to distribute and reminded those members who were going to the carol service in Hexham on December 14, that tickets had to be paid for.

The menu for our Christmas meal at The Horseshoes, Rennington, on December 19, was circulated. Members were reminded to take a small gift for Santa’s sack.

Barbara then read through the resolutions for the annual conference in Cardiff. Maureen is to be the delegate in our Link Group.

The resolutions selected by the board are: 1 Positive body image in a digital age; 2 Stop female genital mutilation; 3 Raising awareness of modern slavery in the UK; 4 Mental health matters; 5 Healthier Mouth, Healthier Body. Votes will be cast this month.

With business over, Barbara introduced speaker Judy Murray to demonstrate the art of origami. She brought along two young ladies to assist in showing us how to make flapping birds and easy hearts. The young ladies made it all look very easy, and had great patience in showing us the folds.

Hearing the noise levels rise during the making of these birds, everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves. However, there were one or two concerns with some of the flapping birds. Lillian’s bird had stopped flapping, Barbara’s would not fly, and Dot’s had a touch of arthritis. Judy’s work can be seen in the window of her bistro in Narrowgate.

Kathleen thanked Judy and her helpers for an enjoyable evening with lots of laughter.

Birthday flowers were presented to Barbara Turner, Dot Wilson, and Bridget Dibble.
