The charm, graciousness and infectious smile of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, captured the hearts of all Northumbrians who have been privileged to see her this week during her short visit to the the north which started on Saturday with her arrival at Newcastle Airport in a brilliant red Heron of the Queen’s Flight.

Wherever she has gone fulfilling her several, varied public engagements, her warm personality has left a lasting impression on the people and made this a truly Royal week. As her plane touched down, she was greeted by the Duke of Northumberland who has been her host at Alnwick Castle during her four-day stay which ended in the middle of the week. Also waiting to welcome the Royal visitor was her former Lady-in-Waiting, Helen, Duchess of Northumberland, the Duke’s mother.
