Residents fearful of losing their Shilbottle retirement home are vowing to fight the threat.

The 18 remaining tenants of Haven Meadows Retirement Home believe they could be forced to leave their home next April. They feel Anchor Retirement Housing, which operates the building, is trying to run it down as a prelude to closure. Blind resident Jean Haley, 81, said: “Any closure will affect me very badly. “When I came to Haven, I was more capable , but now I am dependent on other people. If I am forced to move out of here it will be like going to another planet and I will be lost.” Joy Lockwood, Anchor Retirement Housing head of operations said: “There are currently no plans to close the scheme. However, 11 properties are vacant and for the last two years homes on the scheme have proved very difficult to let.”
