Once the largest kingdom in the British Isles, it’s no wonder it boasts such a wealth of beauty spots.
Romance is in the air at this time of year, so here’s our love letter to 14 places worth going mushy over.

1. Bamburgh Castle
The picturesque Bamburgh Castle, situated 16 miles north of Alnwick, is a view to behold on the North East coastline.

2. Alnwick Garden
The Alnwick Garden, next to Alnwick Castle, is a 42-acre site which was donated by the 12th Duke of Northumberland - along with £9m for it's redevelopment.

3. Hexham
Voted the "happiest town in England" by a Right Move survey in 2019, Hexham in West Northumberland certainly has it's charm.

4. Hadrian's Wall
Built on behalf of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, the Wall marked the northern most venture of the Roman Empire as it stretched 73.1 miles from coast to coast.
Construction began in 122 AD, with large parts of the wall still intact to this day, with an adjoining path for adventurous amblers. Photo: Ian Cook
