8. Alnwick Castle
Alnwick Castle is home to the legend of the Alnwick Vampire, dating back to the 12th century, when a man buried after falling to his death was blamed for spreading illness and killing livestock after his spirit supposedly returned to haunt the town. According to medieval chronicler William de Newburgh, two men eventually dug up his bloated corpse and burned it, bringing an end to the plague and earning him the name the Alnwick Vampire.
