An upgrade is planned to the lift, power supply and air system to address ongoing issues, and ensure the future continued smooth running of services.

Works will take place from the week commencing August 17.

The ward block will be closed for around a month with the inpatient ward temporarily relocated to Ward 8 at Wansbeck General Hospital in Ashington, 21 miles away.

Oncology services will continue but will be provided at other sites.

Face-to-face pre-assessment appointments will also be relocated.

The closure opportunity is also being taken to move the physio gym upstairs to improve access for patient rehabilitation.

The ward will also be redecorated.

Alyson Raine, deputy director responsible for community hospitals at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We will be communicating visiting arrangements to relatives nearer the time and would urge anyone with questions to contact the ward directly on 01665 626769.”
