Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust received many donations from businesses, individuals and local communities in the Northumberland and North Tyneside area to help the NHS during the pandemic.

The organisation has been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people who have supported the NHS by contributing items to benefit both staff, working hard during the coronavirus pandemic, and patients that are currently in hospital.

The trust has been given more than £50,000 in donations and also several firms have also donated PPE to help heep frontline staff safe during the pandemic.

Essential items, such as food, drink and toiletries have hugely helped members of staff, who have not been able to visit supermarkets and shops as easily as usual, as well as providing a morale booster during these challenging times.

Because of the visiting restrictions currently in place, donations have really helped support patients. Whether it be toiletries, to make them feel more comfortable, or treats to lift their spirits, patients and their families have been incredibly grateful.

Chief executive of Northumbria Healthcare, Sir James Mackey, has said: “On behalf of everyone at Northumbria Healthcare, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has contributed to our trust or donated to our NHS Charity Bright.

John Lewis and Partners and Barbour are among the larger corporations that have contributed by distributing PPE gowns and masks to frontline staff, helping to protect them and their patients.

In total the trust has received an outstanding £51,814 worth of donations.
