Hide AdLatest figures show an Durham City has had a huge number of confirmed cases at 596 compared to other Covid-19 hot spots like Newcastle City Centre & Arthur’s Hill (112 cases), Shieldfield & Heaton Park (83 cases) and Newbottle and Penshaw (64 cases).
Hundreds of cases have been reported in a seven-day period (between October 13 and October 19) and the areas with the most cases in England can be found on a new interactive map.
Discussions with leaders in the North East remain ongoing after Liverpool City and Lancashire were put into tier 3 – with Greater Manchester set to follow from the early hours of Friday, October 23.

He warned last week the that ‘”this winter is not going to be easy” for the North of England and it must be confronted with "fortitude and selflessness".
