Covid rates have nearly doubled in Northumberland in the past week, new figures show.

Latest data from Public Health England, published by Northumberland County Council, reveals the county-wide infection rate was 361 positive cases per 100,000 on January 3.

This compares to 184.2 positive cases per 100,000 on December 27.

There were 1,158 positive cases in the seven days up to January 3.

There were 67 positive Covid cases in Haltwhistle ward in the week up to January 3. There are 1,390 positive cases per 100,000.

Here are the 19 wards with the highest case numbers.

There were 55 positive cases in Prudhoe South. The rate is 977 per 100,000.
There were 37 positive cases in Hexham East. The rate is 808 per 100,000.
There were 35 positive cases in Hexham Central with Acomb. The rate is 776 per 100,000.
