The 15 areas of Northumberland with the highest Covid case rates between December 31 and January 6

Coronavirus levels are still alarmingly high in some parts of Northumberland.

Latest data from Public Health England, published by Northumberland County Council, reveals the county-wide infection rate was 304.1 per 100,000 on January 6.

There were 974 confirmed positive cases in the seven days up to that date.

The highest rates are largely in the west of the county with a number of hotspots springing up in the south-east.

There were 49 positive cases in the Haltwhistle ward in the week up to January 6. The case rate is 1016.4 per 100,000.

However, the county’s weekly case rates and numbers have now fallen two days in a row.

Here are the 15 wards with the highest Covid rates in the seven days up to January 6.

There were 44 positive cases in Prudhoe South. The rate is 781.5 per 100,000.
There were 33 positive cases in Cramlington East. The rate is 779.4 per 100,000.
There were 34 positive cases in Hexham Central with Acomb. The rate is 754.2.
There were 27 positive cases in Hexham East. The rate is 589.9 per 100,000.
There were 31 positive cases in Cramlington West. The rate is 550.8 per 100,000.
There were 24 positive cases in Corbridge ward. The rate is 551 per 100,000.
There were 27 positive cases in South Tynedale. The rate is 545.6 per 100,000.
There were 22 positive cases in Ashington's Haydon ward. The rate is 495 per 100,000.
There were 24 positive cases in South Blyth. The rate is 463.8 per 100,000.
There were 23 positive cases in Cramlington Eastfield. The rate is 439.2 per 100,000.
There were 23 positive cases in Prudhoe North. The rate is 428.3 per 100,000.
There were 22 positive cases in Seaton with Newbiggin West. The rate is 423.2 per 100,000.
There were 21 positive cases in Ashington's College ward. The rate is 416.6 per 100,000.
There were 21 positive cases in Pegswood ward. The rate is 409.8 per 100,000.
