One Northumberland coronavirus care home death confirmed during July

One care home death from coronavirus has been confirmed in Northumberland in the first weeks of July.

Statistics published today, Tuesday, July 21, show one person died on July 11, taking the number of covid-19 fatalities at care homes in the county since April 10, when figures were first recorded, to 107.

The figures, which cover up to Friday, July 17 , have been released by the Office for National Statistics following pressure on the Government to be clear on how many people have died of the virus while being cared for in homes.

They indicate that the number of coronavirus-related care home deaths across the region has increased to 1,109.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics on Tuesday, July 21, show there were 1,109 coronavirus-related deaths in North East care homes between April 10 and July 17.

The alphabetical breakdown is as follows:

County Durham 320

Darlington 61

Gateshead 80

Hartlepool 45

Middlesbrough 63

Newcastle 110

North Tyneside 48

Redcar and Cleveland 42

South Tyneside 81

Stockton 59

Sunderland 93
