Chatton mum Jessica Ord, a pregnancy and birth professional, has come up with an innovative way of helping pregnant women – and their partners – through the months ahead.

She explained: “Having received numerous distressed calls and emails from pregnant women facing the prospect of no NHS antenatal classes for the foreseeable future, yet being unable to afford private services - I decided I had to do something to help the pregnant parents of Northumberland.“What started out as just a small group of local women getting together over FaceTime to talk through concerns, and what to expect during birth has now grown into a wonderful community of 250 women, supporting each other through a Facebook group, a virtual weekly group (hosted and run by me), online and virtual (video) affordable antenatal classes and education as well as a free WhatsApp group dedicated to supporting pregnant women from Northumberland.“It’s proving to be a wonderful online and virtual space for local mums to keep connected, supported and educated.”

Jessica, who founded Positively Pregnant, is a hypnobirthing practitioner and clinical hypnotherapist specialising in pregnancy and childbirth as well as a women’s well-being and health therapist.“The weekly virtual group is just £5, and the women who attend are finding it an absolute life saver, still being able to connect with each other, seek professional advice and enjoy the guided relaxations we do,” said Jessica.

“The Facebook Live versions of the guided relaxations are getting up to 1.5k views - so I am delighted to see this is proving to be a valuable resource for the local community.“The Positively Pregnant ‘Birth Basics’ antenatal course is £15 and is proving an invaluable resource in the absence of all NHS and in person classes, providing essential education to first time parents especially.“It’s what this time should be about - coming together in new ways and caring for our local community in whichever ways we can.”
