According to the latest available figures from the Government, as of January 5, there are currently 98 Covid patients under the care of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – with 15 patients currently on ventilators.

It comes as 98 Covid patients were admitted to hospital between Christmas Day and January 3, bringing the total number of patients admitted to 1,772 since March.

Latest figures on from NHS England on Friday, January 8, show that three more patients had died after testing positive for coronavirus – with 109 cases recorded across the county.

More than half of all major hospital trusts in England currently have more Covid-19 patients than at the peak of the first wave of the virus in April.

It is understood that the worse affected hospital trusts are in the South of England.
