This weekend should have seen facilities such as casinos, bowling alleys and skating rinks reopen in the latest lifting of lockdown measures across the UK.
But on Friday, July 31, Boris Johnson announced the planned reopenings would be postponed for at least two weeks in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.
It came after local lockdown restrictions were imposed in Greater Manchester and parts of east Lancashire and West Yorkshire following a spike in the number of cases.
Face coverings have also become mandatory in indoor settings such as museums, cinemas and places of worship.
This is what you can and can’t do according to the latest guidelines.
What am I allowed to do as of August 1?
- The Government has paused shielding, so those who are classed as extremely vulnerable can now go out, while adhering to social distancing rules.
- People can return to work as long as the workplace is Covid secure - but those who are clinically extremely vulnerable should carry on working from home wherever possible.
- Meet indoors in groups of up to two households (anyone in your support bubble counts as one household).
- Meet outdoors in groups of up to six people who you do not live with or who are not in your support bubble or in groups of more than six if everyone is from two households.
- Stayovernight away from the place where you are living, including second homes, hotels, bed and breakfasts or campsites, but only with members of up to two households.
- Travel abroad but follow the guidelines of the country you are visiting.
- Travel to outdoor areas, such as National Parks or beaches.
- Pray in a place of worship in line with the guidance.
- Attend an outdoor performance
- Take children to a playground
- Use public transport as long as you are wearing a face covering or are exempt.
- Go to a pub or restaurant with people from up to two households indoors or six people from more than two households outdoors.
- Weddings can take place with a maximum of 30 people.
What should I still avoid doing?
- Socialising indoors in groups of more than two households (anyone in your support bubble counts as one household) – this includes when dining out or going to the pub
- Socialising outdoors in a group of more than six people from different households.
- Interacting socially with anyone outside the group you are attending a place with, even if you see other people you know, for example, in a restaurant, community centre or place of worship.
- Holding or attending celebrations (such as parties) where it is difficult to maintain social distancing and avoid close social interaction
- Staying overnight away from home with members of more than one other household
- Hold gatherings of more than 30 people in private homes (including gardens and other outdoor spaces).
