Duke of Northumberland's Hulne Park in Alnwick to close to the public

Hulne Park in Alnwick is closing due to the public, Northumberland Estates has announced.

The walled park was landscaped by Capability Brown and is a popular walking spot.

A spokesperson for Northumberland Estates said: “With regret we have made the difficult decision to close Hulne Park with effect from tonight - Friday, March 27.

“In spite of government appeals and advisory notices large numbers of people are continuing to turn up in cars and park at the entrance which makes social distancing difficult if not impossible.

“Members of staff have had a difficult time trying to control the situation.

“A large number of people continue to work from Hulne Park including farm, forestry and sawmill staff. These are all key roles, particularly as we approach lambing time, and the safety of our staff has to be our priority.

“Access remains available in the Pastures and other permissive routes around the outskirts of the town.”
