Cramlington West is second in Covid infection table

There have been 33 positive cases in Cramlington West in the past week.

And a lot of the new cases were detected in the Cramlington West ward, where 27 people are now self-isolating after contracting the virus.

Top of the table is Bedlington Central, where 33 people tested positive for Covid. The rate there is 627.1 cases per 100,000 people.

The rate in Cramlington West is 479.7 cases per 100,000. By comparison, in Northumberland as a whole the rate is 241.4.

Next in the table is Alnwick, where 26 people tested positive between August 4 and 10 (rate is 262.4), followed by Bothal, which had 25 cases (rate is 549.5). Kitty Brewster in Blyth is not far behind, with 24 cases, and the rate there is 369.7.

The rest of the table is as follows:

- Croft – 23 new cases, rate of 493.9;

- Cowpen – 23 new cases, rate of 512.1;

- Newsham – 19 new cases, rate of 376.5;

- Seaton with Newbiggin West – 18 new cases, rate of 346.3;

- Cramlington Eastfield – 17 new cases, rate of 324.6;

- Seghill with Seaton Deleval – 16 new cases, rate of 261;

- Haydon – 16 new cases, rate of 360;

- Berwick East – 16 new cases, rate of 396.9;

- Wensleydale – 17 new cases, rate of 330.5;

- Sleekburn – 15 new cases, rate of 343.7;

Overall in Northumberland, the infection rate has fallen by almost four per cent since August 4 so the figures are heading in the right direction, but there are still some areas causing concern.

Looking at the wider region, the north east in general remains second only to the south west of England in terms of the percentage of adults vaccinated against coronavirus so far. And in Northumberland, 89.6 per cent have had their first dose, and 79.1 per cent of adults have had their second.

The virus is more prevalent among people aged between 10 and 29, but vaccines are now being offered to 16 and 17-year-olds.

Nationally, the number of people ‘pinged' by the Covid-19 app fell by 80,000 this week. From Monday, people who have been double-jabbed will not be required to self-isolate if they have come into close contact with someone with the virus.
