Sharp increase in Covid in Alnwick as figures revealed for 15 wards in Berwick constituency

New figures have revealed an increase in coronavirus in the Alnwick area.

There were 14 positive Covid-19 cases in the Alnwick council ward in the seven days up to October 7, according to data from Public Health England published by Northumberland County Council.

There had been five positive cases in the Alnwick area in the week up to September 30.

Only five wards across the rest of the county have recorded higher numbers, with Hirst ward in Ashington topping the list with 31 positive cases in the previous week.

By contrast, the number of positive cases across large swathes of north and west Northumberland remains very low.

The county-wide infection rate stands at 155.5 per 100,000.
