Northumberland school ranked among best performing primaries in England

A government website shows that in comparison with 125 similar schools nationally, Belford Primary ranked seventh for the percentage of children meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths.
Even better, the school ranked first for the amount of progress the children make between key stage 1 and the end of key stage 2 in writing and maths, and first for the percentage of children achieving at a higher level (greater depth).

Head teacher Lorna Rainey said “The success of our school is down to the hard work and commitment of the children and our staff, and the support and encouragement that the children receive from their families”.
She also recognised the impact of the previous head teacher, Janet Robinson, on the performance of the school.
“Under Miss Robinson, as now, things like acquiring the basics in English and maths are non-negotiable, and this continues with any child who is struggling to meet the expected standards having an individualised programme of additional support and encouragement,” she explained. “If we consistently expect a bit more of our children, they respond accordingly.”
