GCSE students urged to consider a full-time course in Northumberland after leaving school

With GCSE results being awarded, it is a time for school leavers to think about their next steps, and with the help of experienced lecturers they could reach their full potential as they journey on their chosen career path.

Northumberland County Council's Learning and Skills service has taken an agile approach to their portfolio of courses, opening opportunities for young people to access full-time courses at seven of their ten campuses across the county.

With career-focused learning ranging from construction to digital skills, as well as hairdressing and health and social care to name just a few; young people can gain skills for life and work, as well as the confidence to succeed.

Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, cabinet member with responsibility for children’s services, said: “It is a great time to be joining our Learning and Skills Service - with more full-time courses and more locations to choose from on your doorstep.

"There are local opportunities out there for young people to take advantage of and build skills to take them where they want to be.”

Courses are available to suit all interests, whether those interests are in business or digital skills, the beauty industry, caring for others or professional cookery - the range of courses across a number of campuses to develop new skills or gain experience in a trade.

There are campuses offering school leavers’ courses in Alnwick, Berwick, Blyth, Cramlington, Haydon Bridge, Hexham and Prudhoe, keeping learning local and for all to be able to access high level learning opportunities.

Safety is a clear priority as blended learning offers learners a supportive virtual environment in which to hone their skills outside the classroom as well as stringent safety measures at all campuses for face-to-face practical learning elements.

With the strapline ‘Your future starts here’, the Learning and Skills team are all set to enable the next generation to gain the qualifications they need for work or further study after leaving school, with support every step of the way.
