FishPal is an online booking and advice system for all types of rod fishing and anglers who arrange to fish through the company can make a donation to one of its chosen charities.

Bookings to fish the Tweed in 2020 raised £7,500 for the Tweed Foundation and the money will be used to fund the organisation’s work teaching young people about river conservation, letting them experience fly fishing for the first time and hopefully engendering a lifelong passion for the River Tweed.

The Tweed Foundation education initiative also features a Go Wild for Fish programme which sees the organisation’s full-time education officer, Patrick Barbour visit primary schools across the region to teach pupils about fish, their life cycles and habitat and the wider issues that fish stock are currently facing.

Tweed Foundation director, Jamie Stewart said: “We’re incredibly grateful to FishPal and the Tweed angling community for making this contribution towards our education work on the river.

"To raise such a significant sum of money during these challenging times speaks volumes about their generosity and the faith they have in the work of the Tweed Foundation.

"In addition to our widely-recognised scientific work on the river, we spend a great deal of time educating our local communities and visitors to the area about the pressures faced by the iconic Atlantic Salmon, other freshwater fish and the river habitat and this donation is a very welcome boost for our work.”

Mark Cockburn, chief executive, FishPal said; “We’re delighted that our anglers have been so generous in their support of the Tweed Foundation’s fantastic youth programme.

"The initiative is a great way to encourage young people in the Scottish Borders and north Northumberland to appreciate the river and we hope that it will also engender a passion for angling that’s shared by so many people who come to the region to fish on the river and its tributaries.”
