Alnwick school charity appoints five new trustees to drive fund-raising efforts

The Duchess’s High School Trust was established in 1994 to support the education and development of pupils and to provide facilities and resources which would not otherwise be available.

Given the challenging year that many families in Alnwick have had, trustees recognised that its work and fund-raising efforts will be needed more than ever in 2021.

The board decided to appoint new trustees and was overwhelmed with the quality and calibre of the responses.

The five new trustees are: Ian McAllister, James Fatherley, Clive Howey, Beccy Morley and Rebecca Taylor.

Katherine Williams, chairman of the Trust, said: “It is a great privilege to be involved in this charity which has so much potential to help the young people of Alnwick and the surrounding area.

“The work we do must benefit their learning in school and we are striving to deliver projects which meet the needs of a broad range of students.

"By removing barriers to learning, providing resources to improve the educational environment and enabling new opportunities we can give more young people the chance to meet their full potential.”

New trustee Ian McAllister added: “Having served as a trustee before, it wasn’t something that I had considered doing again unless it was something I felt passionately about.

"With my two children starting the high school this year, I felt that this was something that would have a direct impact on them and their friends, so I didn’t hesitate in applying.”

New co-head teachers, Alan Rogers and James Wilson, said: “We are thrilled to be starting our own journey with the Duchess’s High as head teachers alongside the new appointments in the charitable trust.

"Having spent time with the board of trustees and Katherine, we are grateful for the time and energy the team have put into raising funds that allow our students to have experiences they would not normally have.”
